Hodu Boku Kebele Solar Power Project Inaugurated

EEU has inaugurated a 525kW solar power project in Hodu Boku, Sidama Region, bringing electricity access to more than 2,000 households as part of a nationwide rollout of 43 solar power plants.

The Hodu Boku kebele Solar Power Project was officially inaugurated in Hodu Boku town, Hoko wereda, Eastern Zone of Sidama Region today.

Hodi Boku Kebele solar power project has the capacity to generate 525 kilowatts of electricity. More than 2,000 households, including institutions, will benefit from this solar power.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, State Minister of Energy at the Ministry of Water and Energy, Dr. Engineer Sultan Wali, stated that as a country, more access is needed to the energy sector to achieve inclusive growth. He pointed out that Ethiopia has abundant solar energy potential.

On his part Mr. Kenfe Negash, Executive Director of Project Portfolio Management at Ethiopian Electricity Utility, said that the Utility is working hard to ensure reliable and fair electricity service in 2030.

By building 43 solar power plants across the country, more than 10,000 households that are far from the main grid have been able to benefit from electricity service, he added.

The project included the installation of 1.2 km of medium-voltage lines, 10.5 km of low-voltage lines, and three transformers with different capacities. Currently, 487 households have got energy meter and electric access.
